When is it Time to talk about Hospice Care?

It’s never easy to talk about end of life. We love our friends and families, but there comes a time when talking about it can make for an easier transition into that last chapter of life. Here are a few things to look for that may point to hospice being the right choice.

1. Standard daily tasks are becoming more and more difficult to the point where your loved one is no longer able to accomplish them on their own.
2. More and more frequent trips to the ER or hospital with limited results in positive health changes.
3. Aggressive medical treatments don’t seem to be addressing the problem to regain healthy function of the body.
4. Negative mental signs such as decreased alertness, withdrawal, increased sleeping habits, and mental confusion.
5. Signs of increasing illness such as uncontrolled pain, shortness of breath, nausea or vomiting, and frequent or recurring infections.

These are a few signs it’s time for hospice care. Having the conversation doesn’t mean you have to start on hospice, but it does inform you of your options. Ask your doctor about it today.
